Wu-Tang Clan performing on Staten island September 28th

5OUTOF5

The 14th annual Red Bull Music Academy is taking place in Madrid, Spain from October 23rd to November 25th. Leading up to the event, the Academy is holding a World Tour of 10 international locations, with each stop getting a unique and appropriately themed series of workshops and concerts. Next week sees the tour rolling into New York City for Five Out Of Five, a five-day celebration of iconic hip hop originating from each of NYC’s five boroughs. Set to run September 25th through the 30th (skipping the 24th – it’s still five days), the series will feature discussions and performances of five classic hip hop albums by the artists who created them, held in the boroughs they originated from. Things begin with Queens duo Mobb Deep and their defining masterpiece The Infamous, plus an appearance by Lloyd Banks. The Bronx is next with Slick Rick presenting his 1988 debut, The Great Adventures Of… with the help of DJ/producer/photography D-Nice.

Wu-Tang Clan will continue the commemorations on Staten Island with their seminal record, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). GZA, Masta Killa, Raekwon, U-God, and Ghostface Killah are confirmed to be on hand for the September 28th events. Brooklyn will see Black Moon joined by Dru Ha, co-CEO of Duck Down Music Inc. and 3D Distribution, to discuss Enta The Stage, which he’ll perform later that night with support from Big Daddy Kane. Finally, Manhattan itself will host The Diplomats, aka Dipset, and Diplomatic Immunity, plus a bit of help from Diplomat Record signee Vado.
The discussion sessions for each album will be free to the public, though space is limited and an RSVP is required. Ticket prices for the shows range from $10 to $20 and can be purchased at each venue’s website or location. The complete schedule and venue information is just ahead, and more information is available at Red Bull Academy’s website.
