Staten Island man allegedly steals 143 bottles of nail polish fron pharmacy, cops say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- That’s a lot of nail polish.
Specifically, 143 bottles of the beauty product, valued at $1,256, is what prosecutors allege a Rosebank man swiped Monday from a Meiers Corners pharmacy.
Joseph Ballew, 22, of the 500 block of Tompkins Avenue, allegedly told police he snatched the nail polish to make an illegal buck.
"I do admit to stealing. Every time I take nail polish, I go to a nail salon on Port Richmond Avenue and sell it for $2 each," court papers quote him as telling cops.
Those documents don’t identify the shop to which he allegedly sells the stolen goods.
Ballew was charged with felony grand larceny and stolen-property possession, said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
He’s also accused of misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and stolen-property possession.

One man charged after Air Jordan mayhem at Staten Island Mall

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- One man has been charged after the bedlam in the sneaker line at the Staten Island Mall last night, as thousands waited hours for the midnight release of the new Air Jordan XI Concord shoe.

Police officers forcibly removed Vicenzo Gavrity, of Huguenot, from near the front of the line at about 10:30 p.m., and charged him with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration, according to court papers.

Officers observed Gavrity allegedly “raise his fists toward another” unidentified male while standing in the crowd as he advanced toward him “yelling and cursing,” according to court papers.

As the police moved barricades and entered the crowd to grab Gavrity, he tried to get away from the approaching officers as he “struggled and flailed his arms,” and yelled “[Expletive] you, I’m getting my shoes,” court papers allege.

The scene at the mall turned ugly around 7:30 p.m. when the first thousand people in line discovered that tickets handed out earlier by a Great Kills resident thought to hold their spot as they waited hours in line for the sneaker release did not guarantee them anything since the man was not associated with the mall.

As word spread that the tickets were meaningless, hundreds from the back of the line charged to the front, and the mayhem culminated with Gavrity’s arrest.

Many people blamed poor planning for resulting in the hoopla at the Mall.

The turnout was larger than mall officials had originally planned for, said David Albertson, a spokesman for the Mall.

“We always have a plan in place,” Albertson explained. “The turn out was just more than we anticipated.”

Holiday Wish List: Jordan 11 Concord, Frank Ocean Tees, Malice’s Book

2011 was another big year for Jordan retros. I have a couple pair of 3s sitting in my room as I type this. The White/Cement joints are probably my favorite of all time, but his Christmas Eve will bring another classic Jordan. Retailers in the States will finally be getting the Jordan 11 Concord on the day before X-mas. MJ first wore them during the ‘95 playoffs, after his brief retirement. Nike has only retro-ed these once before in 2000, so don’t sleep it! Online orders will be taken at certain shops, such as Premier.  (via CtotheJL)
after the jump, you can find details and ordering information on Frank Ocean tour tees and Malice’s Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind & Naked book.

These tees may be Frank Ocean stanery at its finest but I still want one. To the tell you the truth, I’m not even sure what the Japanese characters say but this reminds of me something I would have waited in line for at age 21. Available at Reed Space.

Malice’s first book has been out for a while now but is still some essential reading for any Clipse fan. It’s a not secret that Malice has turned to religion to help guide his new lifestyle. Wretched, Pitiful, Poor Blind, & Naked documents exactly what made Malice look at life in a while other light. E-book available on Amazon / Purchase Hardcopy

R. Kelly I've Written 32 NEW Chapters of 'Trapped In the Closet'

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

R. Kelly needs funding -- AND QUICK -- because the singer tells TMZ he's ready to film THIRTY TWO new chapters of his legendary hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet" ... but he needs financial backing first.

When we last saw "Trapped" ... the year was 2007 and Kelly had released 22 chapters, involving a little person who crapped his pants ... a neighbor with the spatula ... and a pimp with the stuttering problem.

Now, Kelly -- who was leaving an L.A. gym yesterday -- tells us he wants to continue the saga -- "but it costs a lot of money to do ... so we're actually looking for investors."

In the meantime, check out the end of Chapter 7 -- it's the only time we've ever heard anyone sing the word "spatula" ... and it's beautiful.

Staten Island Mall display shines light on borough's most notorious shoplifters....U MIGHT KNOW THEM

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Get ready for your close-up, mall shoplifters.
For the fourth straight holiday season, the Staten Island Mall in New Springville will be running digital billboard ads featuring the mugshots of some of its most notorious shoplifters, in a program run by District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
"It’s a deterrent," Donovan said of the program today. The video is meant to send potential thieves a message — if you’re caught shoplifting, "it’s a serious crime and we’ll prosecute it."
"For the little benefit they’re going to gain by sticking something in their pockets or their coats, they’re going to pay a pretty penalty," Donovan said.
The digital ads feature five mugshots this year, and in each case, the face pictured belongs to someone who has been convicted in a shoplifting case from the Mall, Donovan said.
"These are people with multiple convictions for theft, for petit larceny," Donovan said.
One woman featured has been arrested 138 times under several names, and convicted 66 times, he said. She’s been banned from the Mall for life, he said.
The mall has barred about 270 people, some temporarily, others permanently, for a variety of reasons, though mostly for theft, according to Donovan.
Though the Mall typically sees the "same amount of incidents every year" in regards to shoplifting, the billboards still serve as a deterrent, said James M. Easley, the Mall’s senior general manager.
"It’s a very positive, long-term approach," Easley said, particularly since young customers can see, year-after-year, the mugshots of people they shouldn’t emulate.
He said he’s seen customers point to the billboards and tell their children, "See, you don’t want to be that guy."
Like in previous years, the ads are being paid for not by taxpayer dollars, but by money seized from criminal activities, Donovan said.

Behind The Scenes: Rihanna “You Da One”

Common Confirms He Dissed Drake on “Sweet”…Butt, Is This Really About Serena Williams??

Though he touched on this yesterday, Common confirmed this morning his The Dreamer, The Believer song “Sweet” is directed at Drake.
Specifically, this chorus:
“Y’all n—as man, you soft m—-f—kers. Yeah my man, m—-f—ker. Then come around my crib. You know where I’m from. Some ho ass n—as. Singing all around me man, la la la! You ain’t m—-f—king Frank Sinatra. Uh, lil’ bitch. Yeah, this the raw right here! This the raw right here n—a. Sweet m—-f—ker! Sweet ass bitch muthafucka!”
Seeing as how Drake channeled Sinatra all over our TVs this past August, it seemed pretty clear that line was about him. So here’s what Common told Sway this morning on Shade45.
Sway: So you’re inviting Drake into battle…
Common: Aye, he opened his mouth and said some things*, so if that’s what he wants. All that sublimal, you might as well say it now….
The verse is about me, but when you hear some of the stuff on the chorus, you can’t help but think about dude, I guess. And that’s what he felt. So yeah. At the end of the day, you fit in that category. He already embraced it, so wear it.

Common: He’s a very successful artist obviously. He’s a very talented artist too, I give credit where it’s due….but any artist can be a target…it’s just about mc-ing, when you step in there, you in the ring, baby. Especially if you say you’re the greatest. I’m on “Sweet” saying I’m the greatest too…
BUTT…..seriously, what else could be BEHIND this beef?
After the jump

Meanwhile, the twitter CSI squads are gathering forensics on an allegedly deleted tweet from Drake…that read: “Platinum. Now That’s SWEET!” Most folks say that tweet is fake.
What’s not fake is Drake’s producer Noah “40″ Shebib’s tweets:
Hmm. There is much irony in this argument. And any argument about Common not being hip hop is absurd. Even more so than a similar Drake argument (which I also think is absurd). Common has no singing voice to speak of.
Maybe all the rap cats and R&B cats could agree on something if they just noticed the 800lbs buttcheeks in the room; )
(Common x Serena Williams. Drake x Serena Williams.)
LOL. I’m surprised by all this because Common is literally one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. So just hearing him matter of fact-ly talk trash is fun. But whether you feel like his motives are right or wrong, or his personal style is softer than Drake’s…you can’t dismiss Common’s battle-tested lyrical skill.
