The Best Dressed Of The 2012 Golden Globes

The Hollywood Foreign Press' Golden Globe Awards is one of our favorite red carpet events of the year. Sure, there's the Oscars, the Grammys and of course, our own Movie Awards and VMAs but there's a spirited mix of glamour and richesse when it's not only the hottest names in film but in television as well. Plus, there's the heightened pressure of being the award ceremony RIGHT before the Academy Awards. We're sure that picking the 2012 Golden Globe Winners wasn't an easy task but cutting down a list of the night's best dressed to our top ten was a VERY SERIOUS challenge, too. After some HEATED debate and eleven pounds of sugar EACH (thank you Momofuku cake truffles and Sour Patch children) in the Official MTV Style Situation Room, *wipes beads of sweat from sodden brow* we did it. Here we GO.
DIANNA AGRON IN GILES DEACON

Dianna Agron in head-to-toe scarlet Giles Deacon may very well be our favorite look of the night. While wearing red on the red carpet is a risky move, this gown is genuinely a work of art and styled so expertly that Dianna more than pulls it off. She keeps her hair in a simple updo with bold red lips and minimizes jewelry to highlight the majestic laser-cut tiers and swans.

Angelina Jolie slaying the red carpet of any event should never be a surprise. And yet, she continues to knock us on our butts with breathtaking ensembles (all the better to showcase her enviable natural beauty) that are just far enough off-kilter to fascinate us. This satin Atelier Versace accomplishes the aforementioned feat with clean lines, stark white, and fiery red accents--the fold at her unexpectedly asymmetrical neckline, her clutch, her pout--all STUNNING in concert.
ROONEY MARA IN NINA RICCI

Rising "It" girl Rooney Mara stunned in this black Nina Ricci. The entire outfit is an expert vacillation between girlish and stark with the combination of her feminine cat-eye, soft pink lips, and baby ponytail plus her shellacked deep side part, edgy ladder bodice, and onyx mini-bustle.
MILA KUNIS IN DIOR

Mila Kunis opted for another one-shoulder gown for this year's Golden Globes (this time in black, versus the emerald of last year's dress). The new face of Miss Dior handbags wore a sultry Dior dress, accessorized with Cartier jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes.
CLAIRE DANES IN J. MENDEL

With the image of Michelle Williams's Critics' Choice Chanel still fresh in our minds, our first glance at Claire Danes in this black and white J. Mendel involved a raised eyebrow. But upon further examination, while there are parallels between the two black-and-white dresses, each is chic in its own right, and the latticed glitter-ombre open back of Claire's dress adds a bit of whimsy and modernity to the high neck and long lines.
REESE WITHERSPOON IN ZAC POSEN

Hellooooo, NURSE! Reese Witherspoon is 100% bombshell in this stunning red Zac Posen. From the risqué interpretation of the sweetheart neckline to the hourglass hip darts to the lavish mermaid tail, this dress oozes sex appeal, but Reese's easy, naturally tousled waves keep this look approachable and not in the least bit overwrought.
NICOLE RICHIE IN JULIEN MACDONALD

The entire MTV Style team is unanimously head-over-heels for this Nicole Richie Julien MacDonald column dress. The cut is simple with a high neck and thick tank straps, but the fabric surface is covered in silver beading in a subtle chevron pattern that makes our eyes bug out and move along the fluid contours of the gown. Also, big ups to wearing her own design with that House of Harlow bag. Yea, girl, we see you. Well played.
EMMA STONE IN LANVIN

You'd think Emma Stone would run out of steam by now, having trodden on the red carpet of three awards shows in one week but girl turns it out once more for tonight's Golden Globes. We're besotted with this plum Lanvin (especially in a sea of nude/beige/cream) with its dramatic plunging neckline, and a tulle overlay floor-length skirt. Also, we love how the angular capped shoulders mirror the lines of the eagle's wings on her waist belt.
TILDA SWINTON IN HAIDER ACKERMANN

We applaud Tilda Swinton for consistently pushing fashion boundaries. And also being maybe the MOST AWESOME LOOKING HUMAN EVER. The dynamic combination of this cornflower blue satin jacket + chiffon column dress with scads of 1940s vintage Fred Leighton sapphire and diamonds is wildly inspiring in a way that feels soooo goooooood in our brainpans. Also, the Tildy hi-top fade is MAJOR.
ZOOEY DESCHANEL IN CUSTOM PRADA

We adore the risk Zooey Deschanel took with this green and black head-to-toe Prada ensemble. The encrusted, lime-colored bodice features figure-flattering color paneling and a delicate embellished bib collar. The outfit and serious Brigitte Bardot beauty game make for an all-around sultry choice, perfect for the New Girl starlet and chanteuse. Also, she has TUXEDO NAILS. *hearts*
