Tonight's
2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards marks the second event in a flurry of awards shows that began with last night's
People's Choice and will continue through to the
Academy Awards.
Winter doldrums be damned, this January-February one-two punch provides
some of the most spectacular fashion that any stylette could ask for.
The CCAs proved to be exemplary, showcasing some of the canniest style
decisions, the best of which we've rounded up right here. Check 'em out.
MICHELLE WILLIAMS IN CHANEL

Michelle Williams was a vision of clean
Karl Lagerfeld tailoring in this stark black and white
Chanel
gown on the CCA red carpet. The dramatic panels are modern, but the
color palette and banded waist keep the look classic and timeless. Her
wispy flaxen pixie and natural peachy makeup help to complement and not
compete with the bold silhouette.
ELIZABETH OLSEN IN EMILIO PUCCI

Elizabeth Olsen
has a knack for making luxury vestments actually appear to be
accessible to those of us outside of the Olsen clan. Somehow, this
long-sleeved bodycon
Emilio Pucci
mini looks both impressive - what with a grip of saffron beading and
delicate raw hem details - and like something we could pull off without
looking like we're headed to a stuffy benefit gala. Or our junior prom.
Plus, we love her pared down beauty routine and the frock's symmetrical
bohemian print.
KIRSTEN DUNST IN CHRISTIAN DIOR

We're enamored by this onyx
Christian Dior number that
Kirsten Dunst
stepped out in for this year's CCAs. The idea of satin bows and tulle
may evoke all sorts of saccharine images of pretty, pretty princesses
and sugar plum fairies, but executed in black with asymmetrical tiering
on the skirt, the dress is anything but fussy. And when styled with a
neon pink lip and twisty low ponytail, the end result is actually
notably edgy.
ELLE FANNING IN RODARTE

Elle Fanning takes bold fashion risks with this floor-length
Rodarte
gown. Admittedly, it is a lot of fabric for the fawnish girl's svelte
frame, but the pale aqua and vibrant yellow play beautifully with Elle's
fair complexion and hair. The floaty layers, smattering of sunflowers
and even the natural-looking crimpy hair are all so age-appropriate yet
'70s, that we can't help but be impressed at the interplay.
EMMA STONE IN JASON WU

Per usual,
Emma Stone kills another red carpet in this
Jason Wu
gown. Her loose scarlett updo is offset by the patterned navy and blue
of her dress, and the color palette is mirrored in her eyeliner and
shadow. All-over prints can be tricky, especially for formal events, but
the teardrop keyholes across the neck and the wide black leather belt
define the silhouette and accent the dress while preventing it from
looking like wallpaper. It's all in the details, ladies.
