Suspected shoplifter from Staten Island has died

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The suspected shoplifter that was chased by police to the Goethals Bridge where he jumped from the span, has died.

According to the New Jersey State Police, Darin Hickman, 46, was pronounced dead at 1:26 a.m. at University Hospital in Newark N.J.

The chase began in Milburn N.J. where police say the suspect shoplifted a designer bag.

After being chased by police to the Goethals Bridge, Hickman jumped from the span.

He made the leap after his vehicle rammed into a Port Authority cop car and burst into flames, according to multiple reports.
