STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A West Brighton drug felon apparently was
storing up his pennies, lots of them — along with guns, ammunition,
ammunition magazines, body armor and narcotics — in his home,
prosecutors allege.
Cops found more than $25,000 inside a cooler
when they raided Ronald Collins’ Greenleaf Avenue residence on Tuesday, a
law enforcement source said.
Also busted was another resident Bernadette Reid, 45.
According
to court papers, officers seized two handguns and 34 rounds of ammo
from a bedroom safe. In a bag on the bedroom floor, they allegedly found
numerous rounds of ammunition and 18 magazines for a Glock handgun,
including 14 that were "large capacity."
Police also recovered
seven pills of alprazolam, an antidepressant, and three scales in the
bedroom. They discovered plastic bags containing crack cocaine and
cocaine residue, and a marijuana cigarette in the living room.
In addition, officers found a bulletproof vest and holsters, said police.
The
suspects were charged with multiple felony counts of criminal weapon
possession and drug possession, said a spokesman for District Attorney
Daniel Donovan. They’re also accused of ammunition possession, marijuana
possession and criminally using drug paraphernalia.
Collins has had prior brushes with the law, including a 2008 felony drug conviction, said the source.
