NYPD perceives robbery motive in Mariners Harbor slaying
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The man shot to death in Mariners Harbor on Thursday night was apparently the victim of a robbery while visiting family on Staten Island, police said.
Shytik Bowman, 17, of Manhattan, was shot three times — in the shoulder, arm and stomach — at 10:37 p.m., and was found lying in the street in front of 38 Holland Ave.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Richmond University Medical Center.
A law enforcement source said that Bowman, who was visiting family in the community, was likely confronted after leaving the Island Deli & Grocery at the corner of Holland and Richmond Terrace.
Without giving specifics, the source said that a piece of Bowman’s jewelry may have drawn the interest of the robber. But police could not say if any property was stolen from the victim.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting is asked to call the NYPD’s Crimestoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS, or send tips via text message by texting CRIMES (274637), then entering TIP577. All calls will be kept confidential.
