Staten Island woman who fell from STAPLETON 8th-floor apartment window identified

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A law-enforcement source has identified the 19-year-old woman injured in a fall out an eighth-floor apartment window in Stapleton this morning as Akea Royal of Mariners Harbor.

Ms. Royal, who lives on the 100 block of Mariners Lane, broke her pelvis, several ribs and one leg in the fall from 27 Warren St. this morning, the source said. She was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.
Housing Authority cops had received complaints about three squatters at the public housing building, according to the source. When officials went to investigate, three individuals attempted to escape from the eighth-floor window, according to the source.
One man managed to shimmy down a TV cable wire and escape. Ms. Royal fell.
A second man, Vonta Santiago, 20, was taken into custody, the source said.
Police believe the lock on the apartment the alleged squatters were staying in had been tampered with and it had to be removed before authorities could enter this morning.
