Brooklyn man faces 11 years in prison following guilty plea in connection with Stapleton man's death

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man will be sentenced to 11 years behind bars for his role in the Valentine’s Day 2009 slaying of a Stapleton man.

Anthony Sisco has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the Feb. 14, 2009, killing of Antonio Watkins outside 197 Gordon St., prosecutors said.

Watkins, 34, was gunned down in a hail of bullets around 4:35 a.m.

Mariners Harbor resident Eugene King is also charged in the case. Prosecutors contend King handed Sisco, then 22, a gun, and ordered him to shoot and kill Watkins.

A law enforcement source previously told the Advance that Watkins may have insulted Sisco before the shooting and King pushed him to return the barb with bullets.

Watkins’ relatives believed the shooting may have stemmed from an argument at a Bay Street nightclub. The assailants followed Watkins to his neighborhood and ambushed him as he bought cigarettes at a deli near his home.

Both Sisco and King, then 24, were charged with murder. King’s case is pending in state Supreme Court, St. George. He is due back in court Nov. 3.

Sisco, who pleaded guilty Thursday is slated to be sentenced Oct. 27 in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Besides prison time, Sisco is subject to four years’ post-release supervision. His manslaughter sentence will run concurrently to a three-year sentence he will receive, under a plea deal, for an unrelated felony drug conviction, said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

Sisco’s lawyer, Manuel Ortega, declined comment yesterday on the plea deal.
