STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Clifton man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man last week on a busy Stapleton street.
Jason Gonzalez, 32, pumped two bullets into the victim’s leg on Dec. 6 at about 5:25 p.m., prosecutors said.
The
incident occurred on a commercial strip on the 500 block of Targee
Street near Vanderbilt Avenue. The shops include a Chinese restaurant,
convenience stores and cell phone vendors.
Police said Gonzalez and the victim knew each other, although court papers don’t state a motive for the shooting.
According
to those documents, Gonzalez fired four rounds, two of which hit the
victim in his calf and knee. The man was taken to Richmond University
Medical Center, West Brighton, where he was treated.
Gonzalez
was picked up yesterday and charged with a felony count of first-degree
assault, said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan. He’s
also accused of two counts of criminal weapon possession and one count
of criminal use of a firearm, all felonies.
