Mariners Harbor man charged with burglary

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A discarded sweatshirt led to the arrest of a burglary suspect from Mariners Harbor.

Cops linked Juan Rosado, 22, to a Graniteville break-in after allegedly finding his DNA on a sweatshirt in a stolen truck.

The Mercedes truck was found June 28 near Bay and Front streets in Stapleton, court papers said. It had been reported stolen from a driveway on Lake Avenue in Mariners Harbor, on June 19.

Investigators recovered a black-and-gray sweatshirt in the truck's back seat. DNA found on the sweatshirt matched Rosado's DNA profile, which was on file, court papers stated.

The suspect, who lives on the 200 block of Van Pelt Avenue, allegedly admitted to riding in the truck with five other men but denied stealing it.

He was charged with unauthorized vehicle use.

Once in custody, cops connected Rosado to a June 3 burglary on the 100 block of Ada Drive, a law enforcement source said.

Based on video surveillance, police said the suspect kicked open a door and swiped assorted jewelry, valued at more than $1,000, and a PlayStation gaming system.

Rosado was charged with two felony burglary counts, felony grand larceny and petit larceny, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan said.
