STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A massive, 11-month Mariners Harbor street sting triggered by neighborhood complaints seized marijuana, cocaine and oxycodone and landed 41 behind bars, including two men who allegedly sold drugs and weapons to undercover narcotics agents.
Devone Browning and Austin Dunning, both of Mariners Harbor, topped a laundry list of busts by undercover agents in "Operation Good Neighbor IV," a joint NYPD-Staten Island District Attorney’s Office investigation into street-level drug trafficking that began in September last year and resulted in criminal charges against 60 individuals, District Attorney Daniel Donovan said today.
Browning, 26, of Harbor Road, was hit with 62 counts of felony drug sales, possession and weapons charges stemming from incidents that occurred between October 15 and June 2.
Dunning, 24, of Lockman Avenue, faces 14 counts of drug and weapons possession and trafficking for deals with undercover detectives spanning from May 10 to May 19.
In addition to allegedly dealing crack, powder cocaine, marijuana and oxycodone, both men are charged with selling three guns to undercover agents working out of the Staten Island Narcotics Squad - a .9mm AA Arms AP9 semi-automatic assault weapon, a .9mm Luger Ruger P89DC semi-automatic pistol, and a sawed-off Mossberg 835 12-gage pump action shotgun.
"Removing those who traffic in illegal drugs from Staten Island's streets is not a job that can be done by law enforcement alone," Donovan said. "We're grateful for the support of the people of Mariners Harbor who said 'Enough!' and assisted our efforts to remove these alleged drug dealers; merchants of addiction, suffering and violence, from their neighborhoods."
