Teen suspect breaks leg during alleged New Brighton burglary; 3 charged

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A 14-year-old boy broke his leg today when he jumped from the third floor window of a New Brighton home he and two others were burglarizing, said police.
The suspects apparently used a ladder to access a second-floor rear window at a residence on the 100 block of Cassidy Place. They broke in there, cops said.
Police received a 911 call of a burglary in progress around 10:15 a.m., said Detective Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman.
Officers Frank Desiderato and William Schau of the 120th Precinct responded and saw two suspects at the back of the residence.
They nabbed New Brighton residents David Robinson, 20, of Ely Street, and Jovon Cooper, 17, of Taft Avenue.
Police did not release the name of their 14-year-old accomplice, but said he was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton. Sources said he was in stable condition.
Fearing there might be other burglars inside, heavily armed members of the Emergency Services Unit responded, along with a K-9 team. Officers and a dog entered, but no other suspects were found.
Police recovered some jewelry, said Cavitolo.
The suspects were charged with burglary, he said.
