STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Three 17-year-old suspects arrested Thursday for a brutal assault in Port Richmond that left a Mexican baker with a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain were arraigned this morning in Stapleton Criminal Court.
Tyrone Goodman and Rolston Hopson of Elm Park and William Marcano of West Brighton were charged with hate crimes including gang assault in the first degree, first- and second- degree assault, robbery and grand larceny.
Hopson and Marcano were also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
The most serious charge carries a minimum of six years and a maximum of 25 years in prison.
A fourth suspect, a 15-year-old male, was also arrested Thursday for his role in the crime, which left 26-year-old Rodulfo Olmedo hospitalized. It was unclear if the juvenile offender, whose name has not been released by authorities because of his age, has been formally arraigned.
Bail was set at $10,000 for each of the 17-year-old suspects. All three were in the process of posting bail as of this afternoon.
Olmedo was released from Richmond University Medical Center on Thursday.
