Prosecutors: Man had marijuana in car

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A convicted drug felon from Mariners Harbor had more than 10 pounds of marijuana in the rear of his car on Thursday, prosecutors allege.

David Crute, 39, was arrested around 8:50 p.m. near his Albert Court home, court records stated.

Officers saw Crute enter and get out of a car and open the trunk with a key. On approaching, cops saw six large plastic bags found to contain pot on the back seat, said court records. Officers also observed a large plastic bag found to contain 40 smaller bags of marijuana on the rear floor of the vehicle.

Crute was charged with three felony counts of marijuana possession, according to the office of District Attorney Daniel Donovan. Crute also is accused of misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and using drug paraphernalia.

Crute has served three prison stints for drug convictions, dating back to 1989, according to online records of the state Department of Correctional Services. Two convictions, in 1989 and 1993, were on Staten Island; he also was convicted in Manhattan in 1998.

HIS CD, DVD STASH NETS COUNTERFEIT CHARGES

A New Springville man allegedly had a stash of counterfeit CDs and DVDs when cops arrested him Thursday night in Port Richmond.

Sean Brihton, 35, of Richmond Hill Road, was standing next to an open car trunk around 8:25 p.m. on New Street and Port Richmond Avenue. Inside the trunk was bootleg merchandise -- 112 DVDs and 28 CDs, court records said.

Brihton was charged with two city administrative-code violations -- unlicensed general vendor and vendor's failure to display a license.

DWI ARRESTS NET FOUR

A Great Kills man was charged with drunken driving Wednesday night after he allegedly tried to leave an accident scene in Castleton Corners.

Wilfredo Torres' 2001 Ford was atop a fire hydrant when police arrived at Norwalk Avenue and Manor Road, around 8:15 p.m., said court papers.

Another car, a 2009 Nissan, had rear-bumper damage.

As officers approached, the Escanaba Avenue resident allegedly tried to flee. He tussled with cops who grabbed him.

Torres, 47, was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot, said court records.

He refused a Breathalyzer test and was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired, resisting arrest and leaving an accident scene.

Three other drivers were accused of DWI in unrelated incidents on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the first, Brooklyn resident Ellron Yancey was stopped for a traffic infraction around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Naughton Avenue at Capodanno Boulevard, Ocean Breeze.

Yancey's eyes were watery and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, police said.

The 26-year-old suspect refused a Breathalyzer test and was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while impaired.

About two hours later, at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, a New Jersey teen was stopped for speeding on the Staten Island Expressway near Bradley Avenue, Meiers Corners.

Brittany Campbell, 19, of Lincroft, appeared drunk and a test showed her blood-alcohol content was .092 percent, said police.

She was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated and one count of driving while impaired.

About a half-hour later, at 12:50 a.m. cops pulled over a 20-year-old South Beach man in New Dorp for driving recklessly.

"I was coming from a bar. I was drinking, " Thomas Day said, according to court papers.

Day's eyes were watery and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol, court papers said. Cops arrested the suspect and charged him with driving while intoxicated.

Day lives on the 400 block of McClean Avenue, and the incident occurred on New Dorp Lane and Hylan Boulevard, police said.

The legal drinking age in New York is 21. Court papers do not identify the bar where Day allegedly was drinking.
