STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A New York City Courts community seminar focusing on paternity, child support, custody and visitation proceedings, will be held Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Part 1, Richmond County Civil Courthouse.
The citywide Access to Justice series is organized by the New York State Court System; the seminar is free and open to the public.
Program guest speaker for this seminar is Mike Williams, a Court Clerk Specialist of Kings County Family Court.
The program focuses on how to start paternity, child support, custody or visitation rights proceedings.
Among the topics of discussion will be: "How can a man be declared the legal father of a child?" "How can I request a DNA test?"; "What are the federal minimum guidelines amounts for child support?"; "What is the Support Collection Unit and how can they assist me?"; "How do I modify a child support order?"; "How to obtain child support against someone who lives outside the state?"; "What documents should I bring to Court?"; "Can I move outside New York State?"; "How can I file for visitation?"; "Where do I file if my child lives in another state?"
