STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Neighborhood Housing Services of Staten Island will hold an open house Saturday of two-family homes for sale at the new Markham Gardens Development in West Brighton.
Those who attend can check out the model unit at 139 Broadway between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The 25 for-sale homes, which include one-bedroom apartments, have off-street parking for two cars and front and back yards.
Prices are $345,000, but could be substantially less for qualified buyers who receive city and state subsidies to purchase the homes.
They are part of the 290-unit Markham development, which replaced the former public housing development and includes brand-new rentals and for-sale homes in a public-private partnership of affordable housing.
The apartments have rents ranging from $664 for a studio to as much as $2,066 for a four-bedroom apartment for low- and middle-income residents who qualify. Renters can be both those who rely on public assistance to help pay for housing and those who don’t.
The new generation at Markham benefits from a collection of "green" rental buildings that meet high environmental standards. There is also a new recreation building with basketball courts, exercise equipment and a computer center.
