Ex-con from New Brighton pleads guilty to mugging
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An ex-convict who did jail time for robbery is headed back behind bars after admitting to mugging a high school student on a New Brighton street.
Terrence Legrand pleaded guilty today to a count of third-degree robbery stemming from the afternoon attack in November near Curtis High School.
Legrand, 20, of the 100 block of St. Mark’s Place, faces prosecutors’ recommended term of one to three years in state prison when he returns to state Supreme Court, St. George, Feb. 10 for sentencing in front of Justice Leonard P. Rienzi.
Legrand assaulted the victim, a Curtis student, from behind at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Academy Place Nov. 4 at about 2 p.m.
When the victim fell, Legrand swiped a cell phone from his pocket, as well as cash and an iPod.
The victim reported the incident to police with a description that matched a suspect in several robberies in the area, a law enforcement source said at the time.
Police tracked down Legrand, who had already spent eight months in jail after copping to felony third-degree robbery in September 2007.
