New Brighton man charged in Port Richmond mugging

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A New Brighton man used a box-cutter to rob a man of his gold chain, police allege.

Alexander Anderson, 31, pulled the blade on his 22-year-old victim about 9 p.m. Friday, at the corner of Bond Street and Simonson Place in Port Richmond, according to court papers.

He ripped the chain off the man's neck and fled, authorities allege.

Police searched the area and found Anderson, whom the victim identified as his mugger, according to authorities.

He was also carrying a marijuana cigarette and a zipper bag with marijuana inside, police said.

Anderson was charged with first- and third-degree robbery, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to William J. Smith, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
