New Brighton woman accused of attacking man who tried to break up fight
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A New Brighton woman took a bat, then a frying pan, to a man trying to intervene in a fight between her and her child’s father, police allege.
Vanessa Lopez, 20, of the 200 block of Jersey Street, was arrested after she assaulted the man in a Jersey Street apartment last night, police allege.
She hit the victim in the face with a bat, then, after he managed to take the bat from her, hit him in the arm with a pan, cutting his arm, authorities allege.
When police arrived to arrest Ms. Lopez, they found a small bag of marijuana in her left pocket.
Ms. Lopez is charged with second- and third-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and single counts of unlawful possession of marijuana and second-degree harassment, said Peter N. Spencer, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
