In Stapleton, more bloodshed, just steps from spot where teen was slain

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A 20-year-old New Brighton man is accused of blasting the jaw off a gang member in Stapleton over the weekend — just steps from where a 17-year-old girl had been shot to death a week earlier.
Dontay Sanders, 20, was getting payback for a shooting earlier this year, a law enforcement source said, when he fired a single shot at his 22-year-old target, who is believed to be a member of the Bloods.
The shooting took place at 12:30 a.m. Sunday in front of 202 Gordon St., just seven days after Genice Clark, 17, was shot and killed outside of a deli at 207 Gordon St. Ms. Clark would have graduated from New Dorp High School tomorrow.
As of today, police were still looking for the man Ms. Clark’s family members believe responsible for her slaying, law enforcement sources said.
In this past Sunday’s shooting, Sanders shattered the victim’s jaw, court papers allege.

Police arrested him Tuesday night, after he was spotted at the corner of Alter Avenue and Hylan Boulevard with a twist of crack in his hand, court papers allege.
Sanders attacked an NYPD sergeant who tried to arrest him, flailing and kicking hard enough to sprain the sergeant’s knee and cause "possible ligament damage," court papers allege.
In reference to the shooting, Sanders has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, said William J. Smith, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
The Tuesday incident also netted Sanders charges of second-degree assault, fourth-, fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
He’s slated to be arraigned in Stapleton Criminal Court this afternoon.
