Laura Govan Explains Basketball Wives Beef With Shaunie O'Neil

Laura Govan J'Adore Magazine
Laura Govan is featured in the upcoming February 13th issue of J’Adore Magazine and she speaks extensively about her issues with Shaunie O’Neal, how they led to her joining the Basketball Wives L.A. cast and how her relationship with baller baby daddy Gilbert Arenas is going.
Check out the excerpt below:
On Shaunie O’Neal:
“I don’t have a relationship with Shaunie and I never will. The information she was given about Shaq and I was false, and she took it and ran with it. I didn’t appreciate it at all and for that reason I will never speak to her again. I don’t have beef with her. If we see each other, I won’t chin check her, but that’s why I chose to do Basketball Wives LA. I wanted people to see exactly who I am opposed to what you heard on Season One: Miami. I mean, there were five grown women talking about me and they had no idea who I was. That was unfair, but it goes to show you where their mentality was.”
I don’t think she has to worry about ever speaking to Shaunie O’Neal — Shaunie prolly said everything she had to say. On camera.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30, 2012 — The strong, independent and sexy ladies of VH1′s “Basketball Wives” are back for a fourth season. The ladies open up a new chapter in their lives in New York City as they recover from last season’s fall-outs and welcome two new cast members, Kenya Bell and Kesha Nichols, who also know that being in a relationship with a pro-basketball player isn’t as glamorous as one might think. From the ladies show-stopping fashion to their drama and betrayal, VH1 is going deeper into their friendships and relationships to deliver a powerful season four of “Basketball Wives” returning Monday, February 20 at 8PM.*
In season four of “Basketball Wives” the two new ladies alter the ever-changing landscape and dynamic among these women. Newcomer Kesha Nichols survived every girl’s worst nightmare, having her engagement broken off by her ball-playing fiance via email shortly before their wedding. Kenya Bell is in the process of finalizing a divorce from a basketball star and is one of the most notorious and controversial wives in the league, whose infamous reputation is well-known by the other wives. Shaunie O’Neal is on the path to establishing herself as a business mogul. Evelyn Lozada and Jennifer Williams’ 12-year friendship is in a precarious position. Will it recover from last season’s fracture? Strong-willed Tami Roman continues to be a force to be reckoned with both socially and now in business. Royce Reed and Suzie Ketcham attempt to navigate uncharted waters as new chapters open in their lives.
These powerful women aren’t going to let ex-husbands, challenged friendships or public scrutiny get them down. Having a relationship with a pro basketball player isn’t always easy but we’ve watched as these women have shown viewers time and time again how they persevere through difficult times. Tune-in to VH1 on Monday, February 20th at 8PM* as the excitement and fireworks continue.
Shed Media is producing the series. Executive producing for Shed Media are Nick Emmerson, Alex Demyanenko and Sean Rankine. Shaunie O’Neal is an executive producer. Executive producing for VH1 are Jeff Olde, Jill Holmes and Tom Huffman.

Imani Showalter’s Ex, Stephen Jackson Says “Basketball Wives: L.A.” Should Be Called “Women Who Sleep With NBA Players” And Draya Should Be The Star! [Video]

NBA player and rapper Stephen Jackson aka “Stak 5″ aka Imani Showalter’s babydaddy is finally weighing in with his opinion of the “Basketball Wives: L.A.” franchise.
He goes kinda hard in the paint when it comes to the women not being “real actual wives” and says Shaunie is the only one making money — pimping the other girls. He also says that his ex Imani needs to get over him and move on since he’s married now.
Check out the video below (Disclaimer:the audio is not great):

The Reunion Interview: Draya Michele Talks About Being A “Highlight” Of The Series, Airing Her Dirt, And Those Fingernails Of Hers

Draya Michele said it herself at the Basketball Wives L.A. reunion “The underdog rose to the top on this show.” She admitted to me during our interview that the show isn’t quite what she imagined, but that she’s happy with it because she stayed true to herself. But one thing is for sure, she had no idea her name would be in so many of the other women’s mouths for so much of the season. “I didn’t know I was going to be like a highlight,” she told me. Oh, but she was, both on the show and during the two-part reunion where she held her own and easily had some of the best quotes of the night which stole the show.

Did you have any idea what this would be like, this whole filming experience?
Definitely imagined it to be something different. I kind of imagined it to be with me more like Royce in the Miami show.
I think that’s what a lot of people imagined.
Right. I don’t think it turned out that way, though.
No. What I’m most surprised by is you are the one person, you even said it yourself at one point, “Everybody at first is against me and now everybody’s with me.” I don’t think anybody really expected that.
Right. I mean, I don’t know what everybody thought they were going to think of me, but what I thought everyone was going to think of me—I though everyone was going to hate me and just not like me. You know, what I did was I just went in and promised myself that I’d stay true to myself, and I did, and it ended up working in my favor.
Watching the show back, was there anything that shocked you the most about how anyone was portrayed?
Not really as much as anyone was portrayed, I was shocked about how much time they consumed talking about me because I really had no idea all of that was taking place.

Right. I’m always checking Twitter and the fans are always like, “This is the Draya show,” but I feel like you weren’t trying to make it about you, it’s just how things played out.

Right. I mean, I didn’t expect any of that. I didn’t know it was going to happen like that. I didn’t know I was going to be like a highlight.
Are you—were you offended at all that people were so harsh and calling you names from the get-go? “Groupie” and all that stuff.
Yeah, I was definitely offended being that it was coming from them. I mean, they’re not God-like women, so it’s like, where do you get off saying that? It was shocking but, you know, I took it.
Did you know when the series started that your past and the whole internet thing was going to be a topic of conversation?

I pretty much expected it and prepared myself for it. But I just assumed that if I discussed it once, I wasn’t going to have to discuss it several times. Once I did discuss it one time, I thought I was done. So being that it kept being brought up, it became a problem for me.
At this point, are you friends with everyone? It seems like Hawaii helped you all bond.
No, I’m not really friendly with any of them except for Malaysia.
Do you think that they believe you? Or do you think that it’s still an open-ended thing with them?
I think that they don’t want to believe me, so it’s like I really don’t care if they do or don’t. I’m like kind of done trying to prove myself to them.
Were you worried that it would affect your reputation? Even just like talking about it and if fans don’t believe you, were you worried about that reaction?
I was definitely worried how I was going to be looked at by the fans, but you know, they weren’t saying anything that wasn’t already said. So, they were kind of bringing up old news basically, and I walked through the fire already, so this coming around a second time, it wasn’t as traumatizing as it was the first time. It was more just annoying.
When the situation was in the air, did you ever want to be like, I could Google any of you and come up with something nasty?
I actually said that, like, ‘You know, I’m sure I could Google and find out whatever I need to find out about you.’ It’s like I don’t have the time to do that. I have like six day jobs and two night jobs. I don’t have time to sit on a computer and Google you.
Yeah. How’s the bathing suit line?
My bikini line is doing good. So far, so good. It’ll be ready by Christmas. I’m excited and happy. Everything that I could ever expect from what I wanted to do, it came to life. I made it come true. I’m happy.
I don’t want to dwell on one storyline, but like, the worthless thing; does that still stick with you at all?
No, only because like…as soon as Imani called me worthless, her dirt hit the blogs because people were like, “How dare she?” You know, everybody has their own stuff, mine just surfaced. Luckily for them, no one even cares enough about them to even put their dirt out. But I mean, it happens. Everybody has dirt, so coming from her I was just like, it’s the pot calling the kettle black.
Did it affect your relationship with her? Is it strained even now?
You know, she was one of the people I was most shocked at because in the beginning, I really liked her.
Can we talk about your style? How do you describe yourself?
For the show, I really just wanted to look fresh, you don’t see me very made up, I wanted that “fresh from the shower” look during my interviews.
Your pointy nails are what caught my eye.
Everybody talks about these nails! I don’t know what it is.

The Reunion Interview: Gloria Govan On Jackie’s “Kooky” Behavior And How Basketball Wives L.A. Compares To Miami

The day of the Basketball Wives L.A. reunion, I spoke to Gloria Govan as she was catching up on the season finale and watching herself and the rest of the cast “break up” with Jackie. We watched the final few moments together and discussed the rocky relationship that developed over the course of the season (Gloria admits the ladies were actually scared of Jackie by the end), before addressing the other dramatic cliffhanger of the episode, her relationship with Matt. (More on their split here.) Here’s my complete chat with Gloria, who was so candid and open about everything from her relationship to how much better her experience was in L.A. compared to Miami.

In the final episode, what did you guys do after you all left the restaurant after meeting with Jackie?
We stood outside the restaurant for like ten minutes and were just kinda like “What in the hell?” in the parking lot. We were all confused and they obviously didn’t show everything, but we were like, this girl is crazy. She kept saying “Y’all need to be truthful! Y’all don’t even know what you’re talking about!” But we were like “We made a chart,” we showed up an hour early at the restaurant to make sure we were all on the same page, and when she came in, you know, we were like “Oh my God,” because honestly when we left Hawaii, we were afraid. We thought she was gonna pop out in the parking lot and attack. We were freaked out, seriously. It was to the point where we were asking for security. All of us were like, she’s crazy! And all she kept saying was “Y’all gonna be sorry, you don’t know who you’re messing with, y’all gonna be sorry,” and we were like, “This girl’s got like eight personalities.”
I think Malaysia was the one who joked that she was off her meds, did you actually think that too?
I was always like “Oh, Jackie’s just sensitive, whatever, it’s fine,” but there was that one point where I was like “She needs to be checked out,” dead serious, she needs medical attention. We were actually thinking about looking to get her into a psych ward and get tested.
Was there a turning point that? Because up until right before Hawaii, everything seemed so fine with her.
It was just nuts because she was playing everybody, so she would go up to you and say one thing and when you left, she would go up to the next person, and a lot of times, what Jackie does is the way she feels about you, she’ll tell you that’s how someone else feels to make it seem like it’s not coming from her. She she would be like “Uh huh, girl, they’re saying you’re fat and that you and Matt are terrible together and y’all this and y’all that,” and you ask that person like “You said that about me?” and then you find out “Jackie, that’s how YOU really feel, you don’t have to lie and say Imani said it,” or whoever else said it. But the turning point was Hawaii when Laura and Imani had that talk on the beach. Jackie was so freaked out. She was like “Uh oh.” I’m not there to monitor or regulate or put my two cents in, and you can see that she was wigging out like “What are they saying? Why can’t they just say it in front of the group?” and she was really worried that they were going to realize what she did. That’s when the turning point really came. She was at people’s rooms, she was calling people in the middle of the night, she was outside the door, it was some MacGyver type of stuff.
So the “kookiness” that we saw on the show was toned down from how it really was?

It wasn’t that it was toned down so much, but no one pinpointed that it was her yet, no one ever brought it up, we just all thought “That’s just Jackie,” but when it started to spill over into creepiness, that’s when everyone started talkin’. The thing about Jackie is that she likes to stir stuff up internally and then be the person that tries to fix it, so she’s walking around like the big sister, and then she just talks and talks and talks and makes you think “Well maybe I AM crazy, did I really say that?” and you start to question yourself.
Was it weird to you that Jackie went from like, den mother who everyone looked up to to the crazy one, and Draya went from the outsider to, you know, someone everyone ended up liking in the end?
Yeah, it was kind of crazy how everyone switched roles. Even Malaysia and I went from not really liking each other to her, you know, finding her walk with God and she really came into her own, and Imani, she didn’t like me either, she was one of the ones who was like “If I don’t like your sister, I might as well not like you” and I was like “Imani, I’m the only one here that you knew, I introduced you to Laura!”
How was it working with Laura?
Hilarious.
Did you worry at all about her, that her reputation preceded her and she’d get some heat?
Yeah, I definitely thought that I’d have to spend at least the first half defending her, coming from Miami and all those assumptions and that scrutiny. I was prepared for that, but then again, knowing Imani, and Laura having known Jackie, the only two that I was worried about were Malaysia and Draya. I didn’t know them, they didn’t know my sister, that was the only time that I was on edge. But in terms of working with her, it was hilarious. We shot a lot together and we’d always laugh. the crew had to be like “Come back to us, focus up!” It was classic.
It was great to see your family too.
My parents are hilarious and it was really cool for people to see our character, where we came from and mom and dad still together after 36 years.
What did the rest of your family think of you doing another series after you had such a tumultuous time on the Miami show?

They know I’m a strong person, obviously very hard-headed at times, but I think with my sister on board, they knew we wouldn’t do anything to ruin our family values or our reputations or anything like that. They were way more supportive. And they know I want to get into films, so they were like take this as an opportunity.
How’s that going?
Auditioning has been amazing, I’ve gotten some callbacks, and just the opportunities I’ve gotten through sponsors and appearances have been great. This is a stepping stone, I’m not going to be a reality star forever, so it’s been good.
How was it doing that lingerie photo shoot?
I was so nervous.
What were you doing that for?
It was for something called TITS, “Two In The Shirt,” but Matt came through to support, and I think, you know “lingerie photo shoot,” you’re never really sure if anything shady is going on. I have been working out a lot to get my body back, so I was excited, but so nervous too, I mean, walking around in a thong was like “Oh, God.”

Did you try to change your style between Miami and now?

Absolutely. I think once people see themselves on TV they’re like “Ooh.” Either you look good or you’re like, I gotta do some work. And when I came to L.A. I was like “I need to get on the Stairmaster,” and L.A. is full of so many appearance critics, even if you’re going to the store you gotta be fly, out here, if there’s a snowstorm, you better have on them Prada boots. So I was like, I gotta step things up!
How different is this cast from Miami?
So different. I think, first of all, we all have kids, so I think for a lot of us, our priorities are different. I think that’s why we filmed so long, we all had other commitments and our priorities were different. And also, we may not all have guys, but a lot of us still have to deal with them to a certain degree because we have kids with them, so I think that comes out in how we approach certain situations. Because we ARE moms, we aren’t going to be throwing water week in and week out. We’ve had our boiling points, obviously, but it wasn’t like a constant occurrence for us because we were like “No, I’m a mom and my kids aren’t going to look at me like I’m stupid.” I think that’s the main thing that distinguishes us from Miami.
Was this a more pleasant experience for you?
Oh, hell yeah. I had a great time. I had a blast.

Check Out The Supertrailer For Basketball Wives 3

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnnvtQjRvacJVlIm3YeAZFJVuVD7h9iu_X0yc1br7AY7A7sJb0PokJjd0JWrnYTlSlyuh749jPWok06CFTudIKnXg65A9TQArtIdy5n1rNGaTnbCMDk6-v7aipN42pSudjv6UfslWoB4XY/s1600/basketball+wives.jpgIt’s almost time for Basketball Wives 3, and after watching the trailer for this upcoming season, all we have to say is wow. Make that WOW!
If the first two seasons of this show were a delicate spring rain shower, this season promises to be a hurricane, consisting mostly of screaming, legal action, and glasses being thrown in various Miami restaurants. Oh, and getting to know the newest wife, Meeka Claxton. It’s hard to pick a favorite moment out of the trailer, but for nostalgia’s sake we’re going to award it to Tami who, at one point, wears a bedazzled t- shirt reading “It wasn’t NOT funny.” Oh, previous reality show memories, how we cling to you.
Basketball Wives 3 premieres on May 30 at 8p.m. ET/PT.
