STATEN
ISLAND, N.Y. — People gravitated to David Wayne Williams Jr., drawn by
his infectious sense of humor and joyful spirit. A resident of Concord,
he adored his daughter and fiancee, and the young family was happily
anticipating Christmas.
Instead, the unthinkable occurred: Mr. Williams, 30, was shot to death in his apartment on Dec. 8.
Now his stunned loved ones face his funeral, a bleak holiday season, and worse, life without him.
“David was my best friend and a devoted father to Denae, and he will
truly be missed,” said his fiancee, Jaclyn Nicole Hunt. “He will always
be alive in our hearts.”
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Williams moved to Ward Hill 17 years ago. He also lived in Mariners Harbor before settling in Concord.
He graduated from Curtis High School and attended Post University in Waterbury, Conn.
Mr. Williams drove Access-A-Ride vans throughout the city, providing
transportation for handicapped New Yorkers. He was in the process of
upgrading his CDL license to obtain a job as a bus operator.
“David was the provider and protector of our family,” Ms. Hunt said. “He was a great friend and always willing to help.”
Mr. Williams loved music, was a basketball and football fan, enjoyed his sports car and spending time with his friends.
Surviving, along with his fiancee, Ms. Hunt, and his daughter, Denae
Williams, are his parents, Evelyn and David Wayne Williams Sr., and his
sister, Dawn John-Baptiste.
The funeral service will be tomorrow
at 9:30 a.m. in the Scamardella Funeral Home, West Brighton. Burial
will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Linden, N.J.
