STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A twice-convicted gun felon was once again caught packing heat, after police saw him trying to ditch a gun in the garbage chute of a public housing building in Mariners Harbor.
Harry Timberlake, 27, of Fancher Place in Mariners Harbor, was caught trespassing inside 189 Continental Pl. -- one of the buildings in the Mariners Harbor Houses -- about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, police allege. Police watched as he tried to dump the gun, a loaded Glock model 23 .40 caliber pistol, then recovered it inside a garbage compactor, authorities allege.
Timberlake has been twice convicted on gun-possession charges -- first in March 2004, when he was convicted of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and sentenced to six months in jail, and again in May 2005, when he received a three-year prison term after being convicted of attempted third-degree criminal weapon possession.
In February 2008, he faced another conviction, for felony drug possession, and spent another three years in prison until his release this past March. This time, he faces charges of second-, third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as third-degree criminal trespass.
