STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Stapleton mother was hit with assault and weapons charges today after authorities say she walloped her child's father on the head with a metal cooking pot -- reportedly because he didn't buy her a Mother's Day present.
Artavia Kimbrough, 29, of Stapleton, faces charges of second- and third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree harassment, after cops say an argument yesterday morning in her Warren Street apartment got out of hand.
Ms. Kimbrough allegedly smacked her boy friend, Charmean Allen, 28, in the head with a metal cooking pot, opening up a gash on his forehead.
Allen, who has an 8-month-old son with the suspect, told the New York Post the incident was sparked when she woke up and questioned him about his lack of a Mother's Day present.
"I was going to her get balloons and candy to take her to dinner," he told the Post. "But I can't take her to dinner because the police aren't releasing her."
