Port Richmond teen faces assault charge in punching of cop, court papers say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Port Richmond teen punched a police officer in the face after he was caught rummaging through two vehicles in Willowbrook early Monday morning, authorities allege.

Police say Kevin McDonald, 17, of Haughwout Avenue, was looking through a 2001 Infiniti near the corner of Woodbine and Caswell avenues when a witness spotted him. When police arrived, he had moved onto a 2010 Dodge Caravan, court papers allege.

He punched the arresting officer, knocking him to the ground and scraping his knee in the process, then flailed wildly, kicking a side window inside a police patrol car, court papers allege.

McDonald then spit in another police officer’s face, court papers allege.

Police found a gravity knife and a razor blade in his possession, according to authorities.

McDonald faces charges of second- and third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, attempted petit larceny, and two counts each of third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and second-degree harassment.
