2 arrested in violent Stapleton robbery

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police interrupted a robbery in progress in Stapleton Sunday night, arresting two suspects who beat up an acquaintance and stole his iPod Touch, authorities allege.
John D. Scott, 20, of the 200 block of Park Hill Avenue in Clifton, and Christopher Beltran, 17, of the 500 block of Van Duzer Street in Stapleton, were pummeling their victim at the corner of Van Duzer and Beach streets when cops happened on the scene, police allege.
Both face charges of second- and third-degree robbery, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.
Beltran, who police allege was carrying a switchblade in his pocket, was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
