DWI arrests spike on Staten Island in 2011
NEW YORK -- Arrests for DWI on Staten Island increased
18.1 percent in 2011 over the previous year. Overall, drunken-driving
arrests were down in New York City.
There were 607 DWI arrests on Staten Island through Dec. 25.
The New York Post, citing NYPD statistics, said that citywide, DWI arrests were down 13.4 percent from 2010.
The biggest drop, 19.8 percent, was recorded in Brooklyn.
In Manhattan, DWI arrests were down 16.2 percent over 2010. In the Bronx, the arrests declined 15.9 percent.
Queens, which had the most DWI arrests in 2010, saw a 10.2 percent decline in 2011 over the same period the year before.

MTV's 11 Artists To Watch In 2012
Last year we were pretty spot-on with our predictions about who to keep an eye on in 2011: Wiz Khalifa's currently brushing shoulders (and SAG cards) with Snoop Dogg, Tinie Tempah reminded us why Brit club music is seriously the best and Warpaint continues to score us some major indie cred. Frank Ocean: You probably already have a Frank Ocean jam on your iPod. If you don't, you definitely have a Frank Ocean-assisted jam on your iPod. The R&B New Orleans native (and probably the most gentle member of Odd Future) has already been in the studio with Beyoncé, Kanye West and Jay-Z (together!), and that was before he was even signed.
Walk The Moon: It's a common belief that there are literally zero people on the planet that don't love Walk The Moon's "Anna Sun." The Cincinnati indie rockers combine synth-heavy hooks with happy harmonies to create what are sure to be some of 2012's most repeat-worthy songs. Plus, how can you hate on a keytar cameo?
Lana Del Rey: New York native Lizzie Grant -- you probably know her as Lana Del Rey -- took the internet by storm with her 2011 song "Video Games." She also managed to create an entirely new music genre while she was at it: "Hollywood sadcore." With her striking visuals and modern take on romantic nostalgia, say hello to everyone's new favorite indie crush.
Dev: Pop singer Dev is about to tear up 2012 like a G6. No, literally -- her song "Booty Bounce" that was sampled in Far East Movement's inescapable car jam is what launched it to No. 1 in the United States, and the recent new mom is just getting started.
A$AP Rocky: After hits like "Purple Swag" and "Peso" got Harlem rapper Rakim Mayer's name circulating around the hip hop elite, it was his 2011 mixtape "LiveLoveA$AP" that made him a standout. After hitting the road with Drake this past fall, we're looking to hear much more from A$AP in 2012.

Electric Guest:
If you were looking to fill that subtly melancholy indie rock hole
that's been vacant for so long, may we suggest Los Angeles duo Electric
Guest. Sorry, make that "subtly melancholy indie rock that's produced by
hip-hop wunderkind Danger Mouse."
Kendrick Lamar:
Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar has worked with some of the biggest names
in hip-hop, and the dude is only 23 years old. After releasing his
first mixtape "Y.H.N.I.C." at 16, Lamar has already clocked studio time
with Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Look for some of Dre's influences on Lamar's debut album Detox.

fun. kind of sounds like if you put a whole bunch of talented musicians
from entirely different backgrounds and genres together in one room and
just told them "Go!" -- it shouldn't really work, but somehow it does.

Alabama Shakes:
There are powerful voices, but then there is Alabama Shakes' Brittany

MIAMI -- LeBron James' first order of business in 2012: Drop to one knee and ask longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson to be his wife.
Yes, she said yes.
Moments after ringing in the new year, James surprised his high school sweetheart by popping the question -- letting very few people in on the secret beforehand. He did it at a party both to celebrate New Year's Eve and his 27th birthday, which was Friday.
"My girl, she's very excited," James said Sunday night after he and the Miami Heat
beat Charlotte 129-90. "She would love to answer more questions about
it than me. But she's happy, my family's happy and that's what it's
about."
With a number of teammates and close friends looking on, James pulled off a bit of a sneak attack. He and Brinson had discussed marriage in the past, but amid the din of ringing in 2012, she didn't expect the two-time NBA MVP to get on bended knee at that moment.
"It was beautiful," Heat teammate Chris Bosh said. "I told him, `Good luck.' It was nice. It was real nice."
The news got out quickly among James' inner circle, with close friend Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers and Heat owner Micky Arison among those tweeting their congratulations before the New Years' parties were winding down.
Heat teammate Dwyane Wade was in charge of holding the ring until the big moment.
"It's very nice," Wade said. "Very nice. They have good taste. ... To me, it felt like he was on his knee for an hour. It was probably like 35 seconds. It was great. I feel so happy for them and their entire family."

"I had no idea it was coming," Bosh said. "I just heard some commotion, and yeah, there it was. It was nice. It was real cool."

The couple spent Christmas 7,000 miles apart – Katy in Hawaii, Russell in Cornwall – before he instructed his lawyers to start divorce proceedings on Friday.
Today we reveal how the rot set into their marriage SIX MONTHS ago and how close friends thought it would end in disaster even BEFORE their Hindu wedding ceremony at a wildlife resort in India in October 2010.
Insiders have also told us how the couple had marriage counselling to try to avoid a divorce while keeping up a public pretence that they were happy together.
Their lawyers were twice close to an agreement to put out a statement that they would be spending some time apart only for Katy and Russell to pull back from the brink.
But since the split the ding-dong behind -the-scenes battle between the two has been stepped up. It remains unclear whether the decision to end the marriage was mutual.
And she is said to have told a friend: “I wish I’d never married him.”
Just four weeks ago, Russell told a chat show host who asked about rumours of a divorce: “I’m really happily married. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge.” And a few weeks earlier, Katy had told the same show she “would love to have children” with Russell.
But a friend said last night: “The marriage was over a long time ago, and they both knew it.
“Their lives were heading in completely opposite directions and they realised they had nothing in common and no future.
“Russell left his party lifestyle behind a long time ago because it nearly killed him. All he wanted to do is stay at home, do his yoga, keep his demons away and have a family with Katy.”
The first year of the marriage was dominated by her 122-date California Dreams tour. “But when Katy had rare time off from her touring all she wanted to do was go out partying in Hollywood,” said the source.
“Once he was back in Britain he started making the preparations for the divorce.
“Katy was surprised that Russell didn’t come running back but she had met her match. They are both strong-willed people and there has been a lot of game-playing going on.”
Our source said the rows started as far back as June as the two struggled with their time apart pursuing their careers amid growing resentment from Russell over Katy’s bigger fame.
“Russell is very good at acting out and about in public all happy, but behind closed doors he can be quite moody,” said our source. “After the high of the wedding, reality kicked in. Katy was away all the time and she became more and more successful. She is doing so well and Russell couldn’t handle it.”
Russell has become a star in his own right in the US with the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and more recently Arthur.
“He was doing well in America but Katy is on a different scale of fame and success,” said the source.
“I think there is resentment between them that their careers were keeping them apart.
“He wanted her to stay at home, do the whole Hollywood housewives thing. But that was never going to happen for Katy, she loves her singing career.
“Perhaps there was an element of jealousy on Russell’s part. And while Russell is happy in America, he does like coming home to the UK.
“Katy prefers him to be with her LA friends rather than his friends back home. This also caused resentment because Russell has long-standing friends back home in England.”
The rows had escalated by October as former hellraiser Russell, who has been treated for drug and alcohol addiction, began to argue with Katy over her partying lifestyle.

He answered: “Work out how many days and, here’s a simple rule, triple it! I love it. I’ve a very addictive personality.”
And alongside a raunchy photoshoot, Katy told how she tamed womaniser Russell by making him wait for sex when Brand assumed he would be taking the singer home.
“Can you imagine the horrible feeling he had when he was used to getting everything he wanted?
“He was a heroin addict and now he’s not. He was addicted to all kinds of things and now he’s not. And he basically used to be a professional prostitute and now he’s not. “

The source continued: “They had therapy and marriage counselling sessions for about six weeks. They were doing the sessions in three-way conference calls with all parties in separate locations – it was all typically Hollywood.

The source said: “It was very much a fairytale and whirlwind romance. “They were a high-profile couple. Russell has a big ego and loved the attention.
“But even before they got married people close to Russell were a bit concerned at the speed at which it was going and whether they were right for each other. Friends close to him said it would end in tears when reality set in.”
Now the couple will have to face sorting out the financial issues of the divorce settlement – but a friend of Russell said he wants a quick and amicable solution.
They own a £2.5million Californian mansion and the comedian has a £2million London home. Katy is worth £35million, more than double his £15million.
In her first interview after the wedding, Katy said: “It feels lovely. I want to have children and start a family.”
But a pal said last night: “The reality was it was too soon for Katy to think about settling down.”
